Collage Art Project

This isn't our first project but it's my favorite thus far:

Have your cake and eat it too...

"Aperture Science is looking for new test subjects for testing of highly classified and experimental technology. Test subjects will be expected to perform simple tasks such as locating an exit and finding solutions to problems such as obstacles. Due to this technology being highly classified, test subjects must remain at Aperture Science Laboratories for a minimum time of 1 year starting when the contract is signed. All test subjects will be rewarded with cake."

The Beauty of Wood, Graphite and Gunpowder

Ursula Von Rydingsvard is incredible; her peices are all wood and graphite. Her process of creating is just as intricate as the emotion behind it. We saw her profiled on the show Art 21, in the episode entitled "Ecology" (which can be found on http://www.hulu.com/) . Chad & I have been inspired once again...I guess that never ends really...

The idea to use gunpowder to create art has never occurred to me; I've set a paiting on fire before but didn't have much luck - well, Cai Guo-Qiang does just that and this use of material is only the tip of the iceberg. We've fallen in love...

Check out Art 21...sometimes it can seem pretentious at times but, more often than not, there are amazing artists that will move and inspire you. I promise...

Druillet - Artist Extraordinaire

To really get the full effect of Druillet's drawings, one must see them on paper, within the story they were written for.

Title Change and Weekly Art Day

I decided that the blog needed a name change today; I'd never really been happy with the previous title, "Happy Eyes". Just didn't think it was all that great. So why "Art Possums"...The Possums has become a nickname for us amongst friends. Again you're asking yourself, WHY?? Well, Hubbs used to do a music newsletter than he titled PLG aka Possums Love Garbage. Each newsletter had a possum factoid and as time went on, our friends starting referring to us as The Possums.

"In other news"

Hubbs and I have decided once a week we will be spending our free time creating. No more sitting around talking about it - DOING IT. The exact day has yet to be determined but, in all honesty, that's not really all that important. What matters is that it happens and  if all goes well, there should be some interesting photos, and projects, to share in the not-so-distant future.

Time to dust off the sewing machine, break out the glue, pull out the brushes and get to creating! I'm excited already!

I've been away

Wow - I didn't realize it'd been so long since my last post; here's something to make up for lost time:

I'm going to do my best and dig in to some craft ideas I've had on my mind. Gotta get that sewing machine set up soon! I was laid off from my job last week and now I have nothing but time. We've also moved into a new home (rental) and just LOVE it! The quiet and the yard are very niiiiceeeee.

These burgers make my stomach extremely happy!

Yeah, yeah - I know - they aren't meat but I tell ya, I haven't found a tofu burger this good in a very long time. Even my meat eating friends think so. It's easy to cook so it's great for the office, camping, etc. You just can't go wrong!

Meredith Ditmar - Polymer Clay Artist Extraodinaire

Check out her amazing peices at www.corporatepig.com (heck, you can even purchase some); there is also a recent interview with her here.

I know you'll love her otherworldly landscapes just as much as I do - it's hard not to. Don't be surprised if you get lost in them...
